The Perfect Day Trip from City Attic Haarlem: From Zaanse Schans to Marken
At City Attic Haarlem, we offer an unforgettable day tour that takes you through the heart of Dutch heritage. The tour starts at 8:00 am, when we depart together from the City Attic to the iconic Zaanse Schans, where we visit an active windmill, discover the traditional cheese making and clog factory. We’ll also make a stop at the cozy soap shop, where you’ll learn all about the art of handmade soap making.
Before we leave the Zaanse Schans, we will make a cozy coffee stop to catch our breath, before heading towards Volendam around 11:30 am. There a unique experience awaits you: a photoshoot in traditional costume. Put on the colorful costumes and get ready for a beautiful photo to take home!
What is Volendam without a real slice of local culture?
Of course you must taste the famous herring in Volendam, as it should be! Afterwards we enjoy a delicious lunch.

Visit to Marken
Around 1:30 pm you will board the boat to Marken, after which you will sail on the water for 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Marken, I will pick you up at the quay in the harbor and we will proceed to a cozy coffee stop with authentic apple pie, coffee and whipped cream – a real treat! After this indulgence, there will be time to store at the unique little stores in Marken, where you can score local souvenirs.
After a day full of discoveries and fun, we will drive back towards Haarlem, along the picturesque dike that leads from Marken to the mainland, so you will return to City Attic in style.
