The Perfect Day Trip from City Attic Haarlem: From Zaanse Schans to Marken
At City Attic Haarlem, we offer an unforgettable day trip that takes you through the heart of Dutch heritage. The tour starts at 8:00 a.m., when we depart together from City Attic to the iconic Zaanse Schans, where we visit an active windmill, discover the traditional cheese factory, and explore the clog factory. We also make a stop at the cozy soap shop, where you will learn all about the art of making handmade soap.
Before leaving the Zaanse Schans, we will make a pleasant coffee stop to catch our breath before heading to Volendam around 11:30 a.m. There, a unique experience awaits you: a photo shoot in traditional costume. Put on the colorful traditional costume and get ready for a beautiful photo to take home with you (this shoot is at your own expense, starting at €12 per person; see prices).
What would Volendam be without a genuine piece of local culture?
Of course, you have to try the famous herring in Volendam, as is customary! Afterwards, we will enjoy a delicious lunch.

Visit to Marken
At around 1:30 p.m., you will board the boat to Marken, which will take you 30 minutes to reach. Once you arrive in Marken, I will pick you up at the quay in the harbor and we will continue to a cozy coffee stop with authentic apple pie, coffee, and whipped cream—a real treat! After this indulgence, there will be time to shop at the unique stores in Marken, where you can pick up local souvenirs.
After a day full of discoveries and fun, we will drive back to Haarlem, along the picturesque dike that leads from Marken to the mainland, so you can return to City Attic in style.
